Resided in:
Fremont, California
We sadly announce the passing of Mrs. Marilyn Johnson, a beacon of love and kindness, who departed this world on December 17, 2024. Born on March 20, 1954, Marilyn lived a life that was characterized by her caring nature, intellect, generosity, and hospitality. She wasn’t one to shy away from a good debate, a testament to her strength and independence.
Marilyn leaves behind a loving family who will miss her dearly: her husband, William Johnson; daughter, Nicole Gresham; son, Justin Pope; brother, Richard (Rick) Lapachet; grandchildren, Nicholas and Siena Pope; son-in-law, Joseph Gresham; daughter-in-law, Monica Pope; and nephews, Jason and Ricky Lapachet.
In her 70 years, Marilyn accomplished many things of note. She successfully raised two children, put herself through the police academy, and worked as a police officer for the Santa Clara County Transit Authority until her youngest child was born. Deciding on a safer career path, she put herself through law school and became a paralegal, then rejoined the police force as a 911 dispatcher for Burlingame Police Department, where she worked until retirement. She believed in giving back to the community through her work in civil service, a belief that both her children continue today. She was an integral member of the critical incident stress management team for Burlingame PD and understood the need to care for and support first responders. Her legacy of public service and immense love for animals reflects her deep desire to make the world a better place.
Marilyn loved celebrating important milestones and holidays with family and friends, especially Christmas, her favorite time of the year. Her dinner parties were over the top and made each guest feel as though they were an honorary member of the family. Gardening, cooking, and passing on family traditions were her passion projects. Marilyn imparted wisdom to those around her and her key lessons, which will continue to guide us, included the unconditional love of family and friends, being kind to others without judging, staying forever optimistic about the future, and doing what you know to be right no matter how hard it may be.
To celebrate Marilyn’s life, a vigil rosary will be held on March 29, 2025, at 12:00 PM at Chapel Of The Angels in Fremont, California. This will be immediately followed by a funeral mass at 1:30 PM at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Fremont, California. The day will conclude with a reception from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, also at the Holy Spirit Catholic Church, in the DeSouza Room where we will gather for some food and light refreshments as we celebrate Marilyn’s life. We ask those who will be attending the reception to please notify the family so they can plan accordingly.
Marilyn’s passing leaves a void that cannot be filled. She is deeply missed by her family, especially her husband, brother, children, and grandchildren. Her memory will forever be a blessing and a guiding light for all who knew her.
