Born in: Albany, California
Resided in: Fremont, California

Edward Charles Stoermer, 91, of Fremont, CA, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2025, surrounded by family in his home. We will remember him as a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, with a big heart and positive outlook.

Born on February 24, 1934, in Albany, CA, Ed was the youngest child of Roy and Marietta Stoermer and the longest living of his five siblings. He graduated from Albany High in 1951 and attended SF State, where he studied broadcast journalism before starting a career in Sales.

He worked in San Francisco at the Emporium Capwells selling sporting goods, and it was there that he met the love of his life, Mary Ann. They married in May 1959 and over the years had three daughters. The Stoermers began their married life in San Francisco and then Salinas while Ed worked for GE. The young couple moved to Hayward for a few years and finally landed in Fremont in 1965, proudly buying the home where they raised their family.

In the early 70s, Ed left GE to become a real estate agent, which led to a long, satisfying career that ended when he retired. People knew him as a true gentleman and a man of integrity. In addition to a busy job and a young family, Ed contributed to the City of Fremont through city politics, Toast Masters, and as a long-standing member of the Dawn Breakers Lion’s Club.

Ed was well-known and well-liked. All 6 feet 7 inches of him could be found selling tickets for Lion’s Club, “witching” for Candlelighters, or packaging gifts for the Angels program. He did everything with a big heart, a huge smile, and a spirit of enthusiasm. He believed in giving back, doing good, and helping grow Fremont into the city he was proud to live in.  He was also proud to be the grandfather of 4 adults, and the great-grandfather of 3 children.

A service to celebrate Ed’s life will be held on April 5, 2025. If you’d like to join us, please contact a family member for more details. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to a charity of your choice.
